MP Chandrashekhar Azad raised the demand in Lok Sabha, said- UP should be divided into four parts
Chandrashekhar Azad, MP from Nagina Lok Sabha seat of Uttar Pradesh, has demanded that UP be divided into four parts to accelerate the development of the state. He believes that the pace of development is faster in smaller states, which provides better facilities to the public and more employment opportunities to the youth. There are differences among political parties regarding this proposal, but Chandrashekhar is firm on his views.

INDC Network: New Delhi: Chandrashekhar Azad, MP from Nagina Lok Sabha seat of Uttar Pradesh and head of Azad Samaj Party, has recently proposed the division of Uttar Pradesh in the Lok Sabha. He stressed that Uttar Pradesh should be divided into four parts to speed up the development of the state. Chandrashekhar believes that the pace of administration and development work is faster in smaller states, which benefits the public more and the youth get better employment opportunities.
Demand for division of Uttar Pradesh
MP Chandrashekhar Azad, while presenting his point, cited the book of Constitution maker Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar, which talks about the benefits of small states. He said that when the state is small, the progress there will be faster, the government schemes will be implemented more effectively, and people will get better benefits of government services. According to him, the complexities of administration increase in large states, which slows down the pace of development. Chandrashekhar believes that the division of Uttar Pradesh is the only way to speed up the development of the state and provide a better standard of living to the people.
Chandrashekhar Azad's View
Speaking to NDTV, Chandrashekhar Azad said, "Uttar Pradesh is a very big state. It has 80 Lok Sabha seats and 403 assembly seats, and a population of more than 25 crores. In such a situation, there is difficulty in monitoring and effective implementation of development works." He said that even though the government is giving five kg ration, it is not enough. Serious efforts are needed to provide basic amenities like roti, kapda and makaan to the people of the state.
MP Chandrashekhar says that if Uttar Pradesh is divided into smaller parts, then monitoring of administration and development works will become easier. This will not only create employment opportunities for the youth, but the benefits of government schemes will also reach the public effectively. Chandrashekhar said, "Our priority is the people of Uttar Pradesh. If the state is divided, it will create new opportunities for development and the people will get a better standard of living."
The demand has been raised earlier too
The demand for the division of Uttar Pradesh is not new. Earlier, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo, Mayawati, has also talked about dividing Uttar Pradesh into four parts. In 2011, Mayawati, while being the Chief Minister, had sent a proposal in this regard to the central government. However, the Samajwadi Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) opposed the proposal, due to which it could not be implemented. Now, Chandrashekhar Azad has raised the issue again, which is likely to bring a new turn in politics.
Reaction to Chandrashekhar's demand
Demanding the division of Uttar Pradesh, Chandrashekhar Azad said, "This is not the division of the state but it will create new opportunities for development. Uttar Pradesh is a very big state, it can be called a nation. The population of more than 25 crores here should get the full benefit of development. Baba Saheb Ambedkar had also advocated for smaller states, so that the state can develop rapidly and people can get better employment opportunities."
MP Chandrashekhar also said that the pace of development is slow in many parts of the state and the benefits of government schemes are not reaching everywhere. He gave the example that people of his area have to travel 500 kilometers to the High Court. He believes that the administration and judicial system can be more effective in smaller states, which can provide better services to the public.
Opposition from BJP and SP
However, this demand of Chandrashekhar has been opposed by BJP and Samajwadi Party. These parties believe that the division of Uttar Pradesh can weaken the unity of the state. But Chandrashekhar says that he is only working for the welfare of the people and the opinion of other parties does not matter to him. He stressed that the division of Uttar Pradesh will accelerate the development of the state and the people will get a better standard of living.
An attempt to advance Mayawati's plan
This proposal of Chandrashekhar Azad is being seen in the context of the issue raised by Mayawati in 2011. Mayawati had proposed to divide Uttar Pradesh into four parts - Harit Pradesh, Awadh Pradesh, Bundelkhand, and Purvanchal. This division could have brought equality of development in different parts of the state, but the central government did not implement this proposal. Now, Chandrashekhar has raised this issue again, and it is being seen as an attempt to advance Mayawati's plan.
Political benefits of the demand for a separate state
Demands for a separate state have been raised in India before, some of which have also been successful. Parties like Telangana Rashtra Samiti (now Bharat Rashtra Samiti) and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha have reached the top of power due to the demand for separate states. Chandrashekhar Azad can also try to take similar political advantage. His aim may be to bring his party to the center of power, so that it can play a major role in the politics of Uttar Pradesh.
Chandrashekhar Azad has started a new debate towards the development of the state by raising the issue of division of Uttar Pradesh. According to him, the pace of administration and development work is faster in smaller states, which benefits the public more. Although this demand is also being opposed, Chandrashekhar is firm on his views. He said that the division of Uttar Pradesh will speed up the development of the state and the public will get a better standard of living. This issue may become more heated in the politics of Uttar Pradesh in the coming times, and there may also be a dispute between political parties regarding this.
