INDC Network: Jaipur, Rajasthan: The 800-year-old Ajmer Dargah is claimed to be a Shiva temple. Former Chief Minister of Rajasthan Ashok Gehlot and former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti targeted BJP and RSS over this controversy. The court has issued a notice on the petition of Hindu Sena.


Dargah Controversy: Gehlot Attacks BJP

1947 Laws and Controversies

Ashok Gehlot said that the religious structures built till August 15, 1947 cannot be questioned. This law passed in the Parliament clearly says to maintain the status quo of these structures. He accused BJP and RSS that their politics is based on religious polarization.

Controversy over PM Modi and Dargah

Gehlot also questioned Prime Minister Modi. he said,

"PM Modi himself has offered chadar at Ajmer Dargah, but only his party people are making the case. This creates confusion."

He described it as part of communal politics and stressed the need to focus on issues like development and unemployment.

Legal Status of the Case: Court and Petition

Claims of the Hindu Army

Hindu Sena President Vishnu Gupta filed a petition claiming that Ajmer Dargah is a Shiva temple. Three grounds of petition were stated:

Carving of doors The structure of the tall doors of the dargah looks like Hindu temples.
Superstructure The dome of the dargah and the remains of Hindu temple-like structures in the upper part.
Water and waterfalls The tradition of having water and waterfalls near Shiva temples; This structure is also here.

Court notice

The Ajmer Civil Court issued notices to the Ministry of Minorities, the Dargah Committee and the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) on November 27, deeming the petition worthy of hearing. The next hearing of the case will be on December 20.


Statement of Mehbooba Mufti: Apprehension of tension

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti referred to the Supreme Court's 1947 status quo order on religious structures. He said that this dispute could increase Hindu-Muslim tension. Mufti questioned the process of targeting shrines and suspected bloodshed.


Accusations of communal politics

Gehlot accused the BJP of contesting elections on the basis of religion and gaining power through religious polarization. He said:

"The real issues in the country are inflation, unemployment and development, but attention is being diverted to religious disputes."


Message from RSS and PM Modi

Ashok Gehlot suggested RSS to run a campaign to eradicate untouchability and discrimination. He said that the Modi government should emphasize on social justice in the country.

"If PM Modi can clap and thali, then why not campaign to eradicate untouchability?"


Sensitivity of the case

The Ajmer Dargah dispute is not only religious but also communally sensitive. The role of PM Modi, BJP and RSS is being questioned in this matter. Due to the progress of the hearing of this case in the court, the atmosphere of political and social discussion in the country is heated.
