INDC Network : Cricket : Pakistan will do its best for cricket, Mohsin Naqvi's big announcement on the Champions Trophy!
Clear tree for Pakistan cricket
Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi recently clarified Pakistan's stance on hosting the Champions Trophy in a press conference. He said that the PCB's view is clear that a decision should be taken "on the basis of equity" in this matter. His statement was in the context of the upcoming meeting of the ICC, in which the host of the Champions Trophy will be decided.
Naqvi's statement
Naqvi said, "Whatever we do, we will take the best decision for Pakistan cricket. We are in touch with ICC president Greg Barkley and my team is constantly talking to him."
He also said that it would not be acceptable if Pakistan played cricket in India and India did not play in Pakistan. He reiterated that whatever decision is taken, it will be "on the basis of equality".
India's position and opposition to the hybrid model
India had already made it clear that their government had not given permission to send their team to the Champions Trophy to be held in Pakistan. In response, Naqvi opposed the "hybrid model", in which Pakistan would host most of the matches, but India's matches would be held elsewhere.
Naqvi said, "Our position is clear: India will have to give us its objection in writing. No such objection has been given so far. We will not accept the hybrid model."
Role of ICC and Government of Pakistan
Naqvi also said that no decision for the Champions Trophy will be taken without the approval of the Pakistan government. He assured that the PCB would send them to the Government of Pakistan before finalizing the decisions taken in the meeting.
Data table:
the country | status | The tree of Pakistan |
---|---|---|
India | Permission was not given to go to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy | It should be played on the basis of equality |
PCB | Rejected the hybrid model | Decisions will be made on the basis of equality |
ICC | Virtual meeting preparation | The decisions taken in the meeting will be approved by the Government of Pakistan |
A conversation with the ICC president
Referring to his conversation with ICC President Greg Barclay, Naqvi said that he is constantly in touch with him on the issue. According to him, "We have to ensure that Pakistan is the best for cricket. We will not sell our rights for financial gain in any case."
Jai Shah and the leadership of the ICC
Naqvi also appealed to BCCI secretary Jai Shah, who will take over as the ICC president in December, to think of the benefits of the ICC and keep only the interests of that organization in mind.
- Pakistan's stake in hosting the Champions Trophy is clear. The PCB has ensured that it will take decisions only in the interest of Pakistan cricket and will not accept any "hybrid model". Now it has to be seen what decision is taken on this matter in the next meeting of ICC.
