76 districts in UP, Maha Kumbh Mela becomes a new district
The Uttar Pradesh government carved out a new district called Maha Kumbh Mela from the Prayagraj region. This decision has been taken to ensure smooth conduct and administrative management of the upcoming Maha Kumbh 2025. The District Magistrate issued a notification and fixed the boundaries and administrative responsibilities of the district.

Historic decision of Yogi government
Uttar Pradesh now has a total of 76 districts. This decision was taken after an important meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday. Under this decision, a new district called Mahakumbh Mela has been created by separating it from Prayagraj area . This step has been taken to simplify and streamline the administrative arrangements for the upcoming Mahakumbh 2025 .
Administrative boundaries of Mahakumbh Mela district
The boundaries of this new district will include the Pared area of Prayagraj region and several revenue villages mentioned in Annexure-I. Its formation is expected to provide better management and administrative operations during the special event of Kumbh Mela.

Mahakumbh Mela District: Administrative Powers
Role of DM and other officers
Special powers have been given to the Mahakumbh Mela district. The Collector will have the powers of Executive Magistrate, District Magistrate and Additional District Magistrate under the Civil Security Code of India, 2023. Apart from this, the Collector will have all the powers and authority to conduct the work in revenue matters.
