Sankisa, also known as Sankisa Nagar or Sankisa Shravasti, is a historical and religious site located in Farrukhabad district of Uttar Pradesh. This place is one of the important sites associated with Buddhism, where many mythological and historical events related to Lord Buddha have taken place.
The major significance of Sankisa is that it is the place where Lord Buddha descended from his heaven to the earth. According to Buddhist texts, Lord Buddha went to Tavatinsa heaven to meet his mother Mahamaya Devi, and from there he descended the earth into Sankisa. A huge stupa and Ashoka pillar was established here in memory of this incarnation, which is still a major pilgrimage site for Buddhist religious people.
Every year the Buddha Festival is organized in Sankisa, with millions of followers from country to country. The festival is an important religious and cultural occasion for Buddhist followers, where they remember the teachings of Lord Buddha and resolve to assimilate them into their lives.
The cultural and historical significance of Sankisa is not only limited to Buddhism, but it is also an important site for Indian history. Many historical remains have been received during excavations here, which testify to the region's rich past.
Sankisa still attracts people due to its peaceful environment and religious importance. The place is a symbol of the diversity and prosperity of Indian culture, history and religion, and is being developed as a major tourist destination.
