INDC Network: New Delhi: The Allahabad High Court on Monday heard the controversy over the citizenship of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. The central government informed the High Court that it is actively considering the matter and will clarify its position in the court on December 19.
What is the matter?
S Vignesh Shishir of Karnataka has demanded cancellation of Rahul Gandhi's Indian citizenship, claiming that he has British citizenship. Shishir has made this claim on the basis of confidential documents and thorough investigation. He filed a PIL in September 2024 demanding a Union Home Ministry and CBI investigation.
Earlier, while dismissing the petition in July 2024, the court had directed the petitioner to complain to the competent authority under the Citizenship Act. However, when no action was taken despite complaining twice, Shishir filed the petition again.
