20 coaches of Sabarmati Express train derailed in Kanpur: Major accident averted
At least 20 coaches of the Sabarmati Express derailed between Kanpur and Bhimsen stations at 2:30 am on Saturday, causing panic among passengers. No injuries were reported in the accident, but seven trains were cancelled and three diverted. The railways has started an investigation into the incident and has issued helpline numbers for the convenience of passengers.

INDC Network: Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh): On Saturday morning at 2:30 AM, at least 20 coaches of the Sabarmati Express passenger train derailed between Kanpur and Bhimsen station in Uttar Pradesh. A Railway Board official told PTI, "So far, no injuries have been reported." He further stated that according to the loco pilot, "Some stones fell on the engine's cattle guard (the front part), causing significant damage and bending it." This incident led to the cancellation of seven trains and the diversion of three others. The Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of North Central Railway Zone, Shashikant Tripathi, informed that an eight-coach MEMU train was dispatched from Kanpur to the accident site to bring passengers back to Kanpur. Later, buses also reached the accident site to help transport passengers to Kanpur.
At least 12 coaches of the Sabarmati Express derailed, causing panic among passengers. The incident occurred shortly after the train departed from Kanpur, near Bhimsen. Emergency teams, including police and administrative personnel, quickly arrived at the site. All passengers were safely evacuated, and no casualties were reported. However, the rail route was completely blocked due to this incident. This section is a crucial route for trains heading from Kanpur to Mumbai. The Sabarmati Express, which was traveling from Varanasi to Ahmedabad, stopped near Kanpur Railway Station after the derailment. Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Rakesh Verma also arrived at the scene and distributed food and water to the passengers.
Indian Railways has started an investigation into the incident. According to an NDTV report, more than 20 coaches of the train heading towards Jhansi derailed, disrupting the rail route. For the convenience of passengers, the railway dispatched an eight-coach MEMU train from Kanpur to the accident site to make further arrangements to send the passengers to their destinations.
The Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of the North Central Railway Zone, under which the accident site falls, informed that buses were arranged to transport passengers from the accident site to Kanpur Railway Station. He added, "Additionally, an eight-coach MEMU train was dispatched from Kanpur to the accident site to bring passengers back to Kanpur, so further arrangements could be made to send them to their destinations."
