INDC Network : Fatehpur-Uttar Pradesh : In a tragic and heart-wrenching incident in Uttar Pradesh's Fatehpur district, a Class 12 student, Priya Maurya, lost her life after allegedly jumping from the second floor of her school. Priya, a resident of Shahpur Majra Amani village in Khaga, was a science student at Saraswati Bal Vidya Mandir Inter College. On the fateful day, Priya took the extreme step after allegedly enduring continuous harassment from her school bus driver, Shivcharan Naik, and receiving no support from the school authorities despite her complaints.
The unfortunate incident occurred on a Tuesday morning, as Priya was traveling to school by the school bus. It is reported that Shivcharan, the bus driver, misbehaved with her during the journey. Priya, deeply disturbed, informed her family about the incident after returning home from school. Her family alleges that instead of taking immediate action against the bus driver, the school's engineer, Raj Kapoor Singh, ignored the complaint and attempted to cover up the matter.
The situation worsened when Priya was allegedly pressured and humiliated by the school staff. According to reports, the school's response was indifferent, and Priya faced undue harassment. During a physics class on the second floor of the school, Priya, unable to bear the mental and emotional stress any longer, leapt from the building in front of her classmates.
Severely injured, and she was immediately rushed to a private hospital in Kanpur for treatment. Despite the doctors' best efforts, Priya succumbed to her injuries late on Friday night, leaving her family and the community in deep shock and grief.
Priya's death has sparked widespread outrage in her hometown and beyond. Her family, along with local residents, gathered in protest, demanding justice and strict action against those responsible. The police, after receiving the complaint from Priya's father, Vijay Maurya, have registered a case against the bus driver, Shivcharan Naik, and school staff member, Raj Kapoor Singh. Both have been arrested, and the authorities have initiated a detailed investigation to uncover the full extent of the incident.
Tej Bahadur Singh, the police officer leading the investigation, confirmed that the body had been sent for post-mortem and that every aspect of the case would be thoroughly examined. The negligence on the part of the school authorities, combined with the alleged harassment by the bus driver, is being looked at closely.
Priya's family alleges that this was not the first time the bus driver had misbehaved with her. They claim that Priya had confided in them about the harassment on multiple occasions, but the school's management failed to act. The repeated indifference and lack of action by the school administration pushed Priya into a state of despair, ultimately leading her to take the drastic step.
This tragic incident has once again highlighted the critical issue of student safety and the responsibility of schools to protect their students from such incidents. Priya's death serves as a grim reminder of the consequences of negligence and harassment in educational institutions. The family, along with the local community, is demanding that strict legal action be taken against the culprits to ensure that justice is served.
The case has now garnered widespread attention, with calls for a thorough investigation into the school's role and the protection of students from such traumatic experiences in the future. As the investigation continues, the community hopes that Priya's death will not go in vain and that it will lead to stronger measures for student safety and accountability in schools across the state.
