Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced a financial reward of Rs 1 crore each to hockey players Lalit Kumar Upadhyay and Rajkumar Pal, who were part of the Indian men's hockey team that won the bronze medal at the Paris Olympics. He also announced direct appointment of DSP to Rajkumar Pal and financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh each to other UP athletes who participated in the Paris Olympics. The state government is taking important steps to enhance sports infrastructure and provide financial incentives to athletes.

INDC Network : Ghazipur (Uttar Pradesh): Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday announced financial assistance of Rs 1 crore each to hockey players Lalit Kumar Upadhyay and Rajkumar Pal from Uttar Pradesh. Both these players were part of the Indian men's hockey team, which won the bronze medal at the Paris Olympics. Adityanath made this announcement during the felicitation ceremony of the Indian hockey team held in Ghazipur. Apart from this, he also announced the direct appointment of Rajkumar Pal to the post of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP).

The Chief Minister also informed that all other athletes from Uttar Pradesh in the recently concluded Paris Olympics will be given financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh each. He also plans to felicitate all the athletes from Uttar Pradesh who participated in the Olympics, including Parul Chaudhary, Priyanka Goswami, Anu Rani and Prachi, at a special function in Lucknow. Lalit Kumar Upadhyay and Rajkumar Pal started their sports journey at the Meghbaran Singh Stadium and under the guidance of late Tej Bahadur Singh, who played a key role in bringing Indian hockey back to prominence on the global stage since 1980.

The Chief Minister said that India won one silver medal and five bronze medals in the Paris Olympics, out of which two players, Lalit and Rajkumar, were from Uttar Pradesh and made significant contributions to the Indian hockey team that won the bronze medal. Adityanath also said that Indian hockey is now all set to make a comeback in the Olympics and the path for its revival has been paved.

Adityanath also informed about the awards for players who excelled in various international competitions from the state government. He said that an amount of Rs 6 crore will be given for individual gold medal in Olympics, Rs 4 crore for silver medal and Rs 2 crore for bronze medal. For team events, the prize money has been kept at Rs 3 crore for gold medal, Rs 2 crore for silver medal and Rs 1 crore for bronze medal. Award of Rs 3 crore will be given for gold medal in Asian Games, Rs 1.5 crore for silver medal and Rs 75 lakh for bronze medal. At the same time, an amount of Rs 1.5 crore will be provided for a gold medal in the Commonwealth Games, Rs 75 lakh for a silver medal and Rs 50 lakh for a bronze medal.

The Chief Minister also emphasized on the development of sports infrastructure in the state. He informed that there is a plan to build a stadium in every district of the state, a mini stadium in each block and a playground in every gram panchayat. Apart from this, sports kits are being provided to Yuvak Mangal Dal and Mahila Mangal Dal and government assistance is being given to private sports academies.

At present, 2 international cricket stadiums, 84 stadiums, 67 multipurpose halls, 13 wrestling halls, 38 swimming pools, 15 synthetic hockey grounds, 47 state-of-the-art gym centers, 20 synthetic tennis courts, 16 hostel buildings, 6 shooting ranges, 14 synthetic basketball courts, 2 judo halls, 12 weightlifting halls, 2 indoor volleyball halls and 19 hostels have been built in Uttar Pradesh, which are now benefiting the athletes.

The chief minister also informed that Uttar Pradesh is running 44 hostels in 16 sports disciplines in 18 districts and runs three sports colleges in Lucknow, Gorakhpur, and Etawah. The daily diet allowance of players has been increased from Rs 175 to Rs 375 and they are also being provided free education, medical care, accommodation and sports kits. To ensure top-notch training, 50 international players are now getting an honorarium of Rs 1.5 lakh per month, and they have been provided separate accommodation in hostels and sports colleges. The state has also introduced the Laxman Award for male athletes and the Rani Laxmibai Award for female athletes.

Besides this, the state government provides monthly financial assistance of Rs 20,000 to sportspersons awarded with Arjuna, Dronacharya, Major Dhyanchand, Khel Ratna and Padma awards. There is also a provision of financial assistance for senior and disabled athletes, in which state level players are given assistance of Rs 4,000 and international level players are given assistance of up to Rs 10,000.
