Maha Kumbh 2024: Government takes strict steps for clean Ganga water, these industries will be closed
The Uttar Pradesh government has made extensive preparations to provide clean Ganga water to the devotees during Maha Kumbh 2024. Tanneries in Kanpur and Unnao will be closed before the major bathing festivals. A proposal is ready to close industries before bathing in other major industrial areas like Aligarh, Moradabad, Meerut and Saharanpur. The Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board has sent a proposal of this scheme to the Chief Secretary. The government aims to keep the Ganga water clean and suitable for the devotees.

INDC Network: Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh: The government has planned to take strict measures to provide clean Ganga water to the devotees in the Maha Kumbh to be held between 13 January to 26 February 2024 in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.
To prevent pollution in the Ganga before all the six major bathing festivals of Maha Kumbh, the tanneries of Kanpur and Unnao will be closed. Instructions have been given to stop the flow of dirty and colored water from these tanneries into the Ganga. At the same time, industries in Aligarh, Moradabad, Meerut, Bijnor, Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar and other areas will be closed five to nine days before the major bathing festivals.

This time the major bathing festivals include Paush Purnima on 13 January , Makar Sankranti on 14 January , Mauni Amavasya on 29 January , Vasant Panchami on 3 February , Maghi Purnima on 12 February , and Mahashivratri bath on 26 February .
The Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board has prepared a proposal for this scheme and sent it to the Chief Secretary. The process of closing down the industries will begin as soon as the Chief Secretary approves it. This step is being taken with the aim of keeping the Ganga river pollution-free and providing clean water to the devotees.
