Angry with the Babri dispute, SP left Maharashtra's MVA alliance, will the political equations change?
Samajwadi Party expressed displeasure over the controversial post related to Babri demolition and announced its separation from the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance in Maharashtra. SP chief Akhilesh Yadav and Maharashtra unit chief Abu Azmi criticized this attitude of Shiv Sena (UBT). There are also signs of tension between Congress and SP.

SP left the MVA alliance
The Samajwadi Party has announced its exit from the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance in Maharashtra. SP's Maharashtra unit chief Abu Azmi said the decision was taken due to the controversial statement made by the Shiv Sena (UBT) on the Babri Masjid demolition.
He said that such statement does not leave any difference between BJP and MVA.

Controversial statement on Babri Masjid
Shiv Sena (UBT) MLC Milind Narvekar made a controversial post sharing a picture of the Babri Masjid demolition. In this post, Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray's statement was written, "I am proud of people who did this."
Abu Azmi termed it a BJP-like statement and announced that he would leave the alliance.
Tension between Congress and SP
There have been reports of rift between SP and Congress.
- SP MP Awadhesh Prasad was removed from the front row in the Lok Sabha.
- Akhilesh Yadav is angry over this and was hoping for intervention from Rahul Gandhi.
However, so far the Congress has not raised this issue prominently.
Maharashtra Election Results: MVA's position weak
In the recently concluded Maharashtra assembly elections, the MVA alliance faced a crushing defeat.
- The BJP-led Mahayuti alliance won 230 out of 288 seats.
- MVA narrowed down to only 46 seats.
- SP says that making controversial statements in such a situation further weakens the alliance.
