Amit Shah targeted Rahul Gandhi on reservation and anti-national statement
Union Home Minister Amit Shah accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of playing with the security of the country and supporting forces conspiring to divide India. Shah strongly condemned Rahul's statement on reservation in America and said that reservation cannot be abolished as long as BJP is in power. Senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad also accused Rahul Gandhi of anti-reservation mentality and questioned the divisive politics of Congress.
INDC Network : India : Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a scathing attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, saying that Rahul Gandhi has harmed India's security and national sentiments. He alleged that Rahul Gandhi constantly makes anti-national statements and stands with forces conspiring to divide India. Shah's reaction came after Rahul Gandhi, who is currently on a visit to the United States, made several critical comments on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government there.
Reacting to some of the comments made by Rahul Gandhi during his US visit, Amit Shah said that Rahul's statement highlights the divisive politics of the Congress, which always tries to incite regionalism, religion and linguistic differences. He said that Rahul Gandhi supported the anti-national and anti-reservation agenda of the National Conference in Jammu and Kashmir and now has hurt the sentiments of the country by making anti-India statements abroad.
Amit Shah referred to a statement made by Rahul Gandhi in which he said that when India becomes a "fair place", then the abolition of reservation can be considered. Shah termed this statement as exposing the anti-reservation face of the Congress. He said that this statement reflects the mindset of Rahul Gandhi and the Congress, in which they are obsessed with the idea of opposing reservation.
Rahul Gandhi, while interacting with students at Georgetown University in the US, also said that 90 percent of the country's population, which includes OBCs, Dalits and Adivasis, are not getting true representation. He stressed the need for caste census and said that until there is fairness in the society, it would be impossible to think about abolishing reservation. Rahul Gandhi cited statistics to say that out of ₹ 100, only ₹ 10 goes to Adivasis, ₹ 5 to Dalits, and almost the same amount to OBCs. He called it an issue like "elephant in the room" which should be discussed.
Amit Shah strongly condemned Rahul Gandhi's statement and said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will never abolish reservation. He said, "As long as the BJP is there, neither can anyone abolish reservation nor can anyone play with the country's security." Shah stressed that the Congress has always opposed reservation and Rahul Gandhi's statement is a part of the same old politics. Shah also said that the policies and statements of the Congress have always tried to weaken India, whether it is on domestic issues or on international forums.
BJP leader and former Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad also attacked Rahul Gandhi's comments, saying that the statement made by Rahul in the US reflects his prejudiced thinking against reservation. Prasad said that the Congress has always opposed reservation for Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC). He cited the example of former Congress Prime Ministers Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi and said that these leaders also opposed reservation.
Ravi Shankar Prasad alleged that Rahul Gandhi and Congress' campaign to save the Constitution is only a sham, and their real intention is to abolish reservation. He said that the way Rahul Gandhi commented on India's internal issues in America exposes the anti-national attitude of the Congress.
These statements of Amit Shah and other BJP leaders make it clear that the BJP sees Rahul Gandhi's statements as Congress's old anti-reservation politics and considers it a betrayal of the Indian people. Amit Shah stressed that the BJP government will always protect the country's security and reservation policy, and will not let the Congress oppose it.
