‘Same thing will happen to me as happened to my grandmother…’: Controversy over alleged ‘threat’ to Rahul Gandhi by BJP leader, Congress demands FIR

INDC Network : New Delhi: A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader's alleged threat to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has created a stir in politics. The Congress has demanded an FIR against the BJP leader, alleging that the statement is a threat to Rahul Gandhi's safety.

The controversy started when Congress leaders shared a video of BJP leader Tarvinder Singh Marwah, in which he can be heard threatening Rahul Gandhi. In this video, Marwah allegedly says, "Rahul Gandhi, tera bhi wahi haal hoga jo teri daadi ka hua tha." The statement was made during a protest outside the residence of Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi in Delhi.

Members of the BJP's Sikh cell demanded an apology from Rahul Gandhi over his remarks made in reference to the Sikh community during his US visit and protested outside his house in Delhi. Rahul Gandhi had spoken about the rights of the Sikh community while speaking at an event of Indian-Americans in the US. He had said that Sikhs in India have to struggle for the rights to wear turban, wear Kada and go to Gurudwara. BJP leaders expressed displeasure over this statement of Rahul Gandhi and accused it of playing with the sentiments of the Sikh community.

The Congress has taken this entire incident seriously and demanded that if the BJP wants to maintain democracy, it should take action against Tarwinder Singh Marwah. Leader of Opposition in Punjab Assembly Pratap Singh Bajwa said in a press conference that the threat received by the Leader of Opposition cannot be taken lightly. He demanded the BJP to register an FIR and review the security of Rahul Gandhi. Bajwa said that if the government does not take action in this matter, the Congress will take legal initiative itself.

Former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi also supported the Congress on this issue and said that the BJP is playing with the sentiments of Sikhs by targeting Rahul Gandhi. He also said that Rahul Gandhi has always stood for the rights of the Sikh community and the BJP is trying to defame him by misrepresenting the issue.
