Three FIRs registered against this senior BJP leader for distributing money during elections

Three FIRs were filed against BJP leader Vinod Tawde and others for distributing cash, violating the model code of conduct and holding a press conference after a raid at a hotel during the Maharashtra assembly elections. It is alleged that Rs 9 lakh and other material was recovered from the hotel. The BVA alleged that the cash was meant to be distributed among voters, while Tawde denied all the allegations and demanded a fair investigation.

Cash recovered from hotel: Three FIRs registered

A day before the Maharashtra elections, raids were conducted against BJP leader Vinod Tawde and other workers at Hotel Vivanta in Virar. It is alleged that cash and liquor were brought to distribute among voters. Election officials and police seized a total of Rs 9 lakh, campaign material and liquor bottles from the hotel rooms.


BVA attacks BJP

Bahujan Vikas Aghadi (BVA) president Hitendra Thakur accused Tawde of distributing cash and said he was caught red-handed. BVA workers staged a massive protest at the hotel and alleged that cash was being distributed among voters of Nallasopara seat.

B JP leader's clarification

Vinod Tawde rejected all the allegations and said that he had gone to the hotel to meet BJP workers. He said in the statement, "I was returning to Mumbai from Wada and stopped at the hotel for a discussion over tea. There was a discussion on election preparations, but no illegal activity was carried out."

Press conference and code of conduct violation

The Election Commission also called a press conference held at the hotel a violation of the code of conduct. The FIR said that this press conference during the election lull was against the law and had to be stopped midway.


Police action and CCTV investigation

The police reached the spot and registered three separate FIRs. The first FIR was for the recovery of cash and liquor, the second FIR was for violating the election campaign ban and the third FIR was for holding the press conference. The police is now examining the CCTV footage of the hotel and identifying independent witnesses.
