In a heated political exchange in Uttar Pradesh, Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya sharply criticized SP chief Akhilesh Yadav for his remarks indirectly targeting CM Yogi Adityanath and the saint community. Maurya accused Akhilesh of forgetting the limits of language and demanded a public apology for statements that insulted both the saint community and the people of Uttar Pradesh. The verbal war began when Akhilesh's remarks on the lack of distinction between a "priest and a mafia" sparked reactions from CM Yogi, who then accused Akhilesh of attacking India's saint tradition. In Uttar Pradesh, political tensions have escalated as a war of words continues between Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and former CM Akhilesh Yadav. Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya has now joined the fray, making a sharp attack on the Samajwadi Party (SP) chief for his recent remarks.
The controversy stems from a statement Akhilesh made where he indirectly targeted CM Yogi, saying, "There is no difference between a priest and a mafia." This comment stirred the political landscape, prompting CM Yogi Adityanath to retaliate while addressing an event in Ayodhya. Yogi remarked, "The person who knelt before the mafia and rioters is now insulting the saint tradition of India. Their behavior reflects their sanskars. It seems like the soul of Aurangzeb has entered them, urging them to act against Hindus."
Akhilesh did not remain silent after this rebuttal. On Friday, he once again attacked CM Yogi without directly naming him, saying, "You can recognize a true saint by their language, while some cunning ones roam around in disguise as holy men."
Keshav Maurya seized upon this remark, accusing Akhilesh of not only insulting saints but also crossing the limits of acceptable language. In a strong statement on Friday, Maurya said, "SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, after becoming a pawn of Congress and a courtier of Rahul Gandhi, has forgotten the decorum of language. His statements are an insult not just to the saint community but to the 25 crore people of the state."
Maurya further demanded that Akhilesh issue a public apology for his offensive comments, stating that such language would ultimately lead to the downfall of the Samajwadi Party. He warned that disrespecting the saints and the people of Uttar Pradesh would have serious political consequences.
This verbal back-and-forth has intensified the already charged atmosphere in Uttar Pradesh’s political landscape, with both sides gearing up for the upcoming elections. The ongoing exchanges reflect deep-rooted tensions between the ruling BJP and the opposition SP, as they continue to clash over issues of governance, religion, and leadership style.
