Five new ministers—Gopal Rai, Kailash Gahlot, Saurabh Bharadwaj, Imran Hussain, and first-time MLA Mukesh Ahlawat—will also take their oaths. The swearing-in ceremony will be held at 4:30 p.m., and the event will be simple due to the limited preparation time caused by delays in resignation approvals.

INDC Network : New Delhi : AAP leader Atishi will take oath as the Chief Minister of Delhi on Saturday afternoon. According to officials, the swearing-in ceremony will be held at Raj Niwas. Atishi has been appointed as the Chief Minister by President Draupadi Murmu and Arvind Kejriwal's resignation has also been accepted. Along with this, the appointment of members of his Council of Ministers has also been approved by the President. The ceremony will be held at Raj Niwas at 4.30 pm and it also includes the swearing-in of five new ministers of Delhi. These ministers include Gopal Rai, Kailash Gehlot, Saurabh Bhardwaj, Imran Hussain and first-time MLA Mukesh Ahlawat. However, a party leader said that the ceremony will be simple as there is not enough time for preparations due to the delay in Kejriwal's resignation and its approval. On Tuesday, Arvind Kejriwal along with his council of ministers submitted his resignation from the post of Chief Minister of Delhi to Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena. After this, Atishi sent the documents related to resignation and government formation to the President. Earlier this week, Atishi was unanimously elected leader of the ruling legislative party at a meeting of AAP MLAs, completing the formalities for her appointment as chief minister.

Early life and education

Atishi was born on 8 June 1981 to Delhi University professor Vijay Singh and Tripta Wahi. Her parents were active in Indian leftist movements and Atishi grew up in a politically conscious environment. The nickname "Marlena", a blend of Marx and Lenin, reflects her parents' ideological inclination towards communism. Although she later dropped "Marlena" from her name, her upbringing in such an intellectually and politically active family had a profound impact on her values ​​and worldview.

Aatishi's academic journey was remarkable. She studied at Delhi's St Mary's School before studying history at Delhi University's prestigious St Stephen's College. After completing her undergraduate degree, she pursued higher studies at Oxford University on a Rhodes Scholarship, where she studied for a master's degree in education. The time spent at Oxford gave her a global perspective on education, which later played a key role in her contribution to Delhi's education reforms.


Career before politics

Before formally entering politics, Atishi was actively involved in grassroots activism and education-related initiatives. She worked with several NGOs and organisations focused on public policy and development, especially in the field of education and sustainable development. Her work with rural communities in Madhya Pradesh and other states provided her with a grassroots understanding of the challenges faced by disadvantaged and marginalised groups in India.

Entry into politics and role in AAP

Aatishi's formal entry into politics came in 2013 when she joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), a new political party formed by Arvind Kejriwal and his colleagues from the India Against Corruption movement. The AAP was founded on principles of transparency, anti-corruption and governance reform, which were in line with Atishi's own values. She soon became a prominent member of the party, focusing on policy research, communication and public outreach.

In 2015, following AAP's landslide victory in the Delhi Assembly elections, Atishi was appointed an advisor to Delhi's education minister Manish Sisodia.
