6th day of Bahraich violence: Increasing tension and encounter

On Friday, the sun rose with some hope on the sixth day of Bahraich violence, but by afternoon the atmosphere became tense again. Attempts were made to open some shops in Maharajganj market, and the police administration was busy in normalizing the situation. Meanwhile, in a major action on Thursday night, Sarfaraz and Taleem, the accused of the murder of Ram Gopal Mishra, were shot dead by the police during an encounter. Both the accused were shot in the leg and were immediately admitted to the district hospital.

Tension after encounter

As soon as the news of the encounter spread, a crowd gathered around the district hospital in Bahraich. Hundreds of people reached there, which further increased the tension. The police increased security in the violence-affected areas, and brought the situation under control by conducting a flag march at night. The police also made extensive security arrangements in view of the Jumme ki Namaaz on Friday. The DM and SP themselves were monitoring the flag march, and the intelligence department was also put on alert.

Events after the murder of Ram Gopal Mishra

Ram Gopal Mishra was killed in the violence that broke out in Bahraich during the immersion of Durga idol on October 13. Since then, the police have registered 15 FIRs and arrested more than 60 people. The main accused Abdul Hameed has already been arrested by the police, and Abdul's son Sarfaraz and his accomplice Taleem were also caught by the police in an encounter. It is being said that Sarfaraz was the person who shot Ram Gopal.

Wife Roli's allegation: Justice was not done

Ram Gopal Mishra's wife Roli released a video after the encounter and accused the police of not doing justice. She said, "The accused were shot only in the leg, this is not justice. We want justice, blood for blood." Earlier, Roli had met Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, in which she had demanded strict punishment for her husband's killers.

SP chief Akhilesh Yadav attacks

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav launched a scathing attack on the state government over the Bahraich incident. He said that this incident is a big failure, and the government could have prevented it. Akhilesh alleged that the government is working on the British policy of "divide and rule" and the law and order situation in the state has completely deteriorated. He promised that when his government comes, all encounters will be investigated and action will be taken against the culprits.

Security increased, situation started becoming normal

Police conducted flag marches in many parts of the city, and gradually the situation seemed to return to normal. Markets started opening up, and traffic resumed on the roads. However, heavy police force was still deployed at the spot, and the administration remained vigilant. The district administration increased vigilance in the violence-affected areas, especially in places where incidents of violence had occurred earlier.

Reaction of leaders

Leaders of many political parties have reacted to this incident. Union Minister of State for External Affairs Kirtivardhan Singh alias Raja Bhaiya called it unfortunate and said that the government will take strict action against the culprits. He justified the encounter and said that the government is committed to the security of the country and those who are trying to spoil mutual harmony will not be spared.

Encounter started from Nepal border

According to sources, the police had received information that Sarfaraz and Taleem were trying to flee to Nepal. The police chased them and when they were arrested, loaded weapons were recovered from them. During the encounter, both of them opened fire on the police, after which the police retaliated and injured them. A double barrel gun and a pistol have been recovered from both the accused.

Future actions

Bahraich Superintendent of Police Vrinda Shukla said that many more accused are absconding in this case, whose search is on. She assured that all the accused will be arrested soon and action will be taken against them under the National Security Act (NSA).

Will we get justice?

The murder of Ram Gopal Mishra has created an atmosphere of violence and tension in Bahraich, and after the encounter, the question is being raised whether this action of the police is in the direction of justice. The statement and allegations of the deceased's wife Roli, the reaction of the Samajwadi Party, and the questions raised about the encounter are making this incident even more complicated. More political reactions are likely to come on this in the coming days, and it will be important to see to what extent the questions raised on the police action are answered.
