Sankisa Buddha Festival 2024: Due to the chaos of the grand Dhamma Yatra, problems have become big in this way

INDC Network : Uttar Pradesh : Buddha Mahotsv Sankisa, Farrukahabad 2024 was a major occasion for the propagation of Dhamma and the teachings of Buddha, with the followers of Lord Buddha waving the Panchsheel flag and heading towards the stupa during the Dhamma Yatra. The Yatra, which started from Dhamma Loko Buddha Vihar, began amid tight security. The highlight of the festival was the grand tableau of Lord Buddha, which was inaugurated by monk Dr. Dhammapal Mahathero by duly worshipping him.

However, the grand event took an unusual turn at the very beginning when the non-arrival of BJP MLA Sushil Shakya became a topic of discussion among the people. Festival organiser Karmaveer Shakya resolved this unexpected situation by waving the Panchsheel flag and sending off the Dhamma Yatra. During the Yatra, Buddhist followers raised enthusiastic slogans such as "Jab Tak Suraj Chand Rahega, Buddh Dharma Ka Naam Rahega".

A heavy police force was deployed under the leadership of SDM Sadar and CO to ensure the safety of the Dhamma Yatra. Barricading was put up in the entire Sankisa village so that the pilgrims could remain safe. However, as soon as the Yatra reached the stupa complex, the situation became complicated due to thousands of people already waiting there. The main gate of the stupa complex was closed, which caused discontent among the worshipers. At around 7 o'clock, Additional Superintendent of Police Dr. Sanjay Singh opened the main gate, but the officers had to work hard to control the crowd.

As soon as the gate opened, people tried to enter inside, but the Yatra slowed down due to the barricading and narrow space near the stupa. Policemen instructed the worshipers to walk fast to keep the situation under control, but due to security arrangements, monks and other followers faced a lot of trouble in worshiping. Buddha supporters, led by monk Dr. Dhammapal Mahathero, circumambulated the stupa, but due to security arrangements, the monks also faced difficulties in performing worship rituals.

The situation became more controversial when the police stopped media personnel from taking photographs during the puja event. Many journalists protested the situation, but the police officials removed them from the stupa premises. Due to the chaos, worshippers also faced obstacles during the puja. They were asked to leave after lighting only incense sticks, which disappointed many worshippers. Some worshippers could not even participate in the puja and were forced to stand outside.

After this, SP MP Babu Singh Kushwaha arrived to worship with his supporters. He offered flowers at the stupa and recalled the teachings of Tathagata Buddha and inspired the youth to follow the path of Buddha. He called upon the followers of Buddha to become monks for social service and become rulers for rights. Babu Singh Kushwaha, emphasizing the principles of truth, non-violence and compassion of Buddha, praised the works of Emperor Ashoka and underlined the importance of propagating Buddhism.

At the same time, the absence of some prominent names in the ceremony also drew attention. Bhante Chetsik Bodhi, President of Bodhi Library and Mahasamata Buddha Vihar and Suresh Buddhist, President of BIVS Center, who used to participate in this program every year, did not attend this time. Some other important events also took place during the festival. The District Magistrate had instructed the organizers to vacate the stupa premises by 10 o'clock, under which the worship program ended at around 9:30 pm. After this, Atul Dixit of Maa Vishari Devi Samiti arrived with his companions and offered prayers at the stupa. During this time, the police had also deployed force at Atul Dixit's residence from the security point of view.

At the end of the program, the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police expressed satisfaction over the success of the event and felt relieved that the program was concluded peacefully. However, the chaos and security issues sparked a new discussion on this year's Buddha Mahotsav, due to which the need for a more well-organized event is being felt in the coming times.
