Students protest in Prayagraj: Demands and tensions
The agitation of candidates against the decision of the UP Public Service Commission (UPPSC) to hold the PCS and RO/ARO preliminary exams on two consecutive days continued for the fourth day in Prayagraj. Competitive students objected to this decision and demanded that the exams be held on a single day. They alleged that two-day exams may lead to discrimination in evaluation, and hence it is mandatory to hold all exams on a single day.

Normalisation formula and confusion
Candidates have also raised questions on the normalisation implemented by the commission for the exam. The commission has implemented a formula under the normalisation process, but clarity has not been given on how it works. Students say that the commission has only told the formula for calculating percentile score, but no scientific explanation has been given on the method of normalisation. Candidates are also doubtful about the accuracy of this process, as many exams have been controversial in the past due to normalisation.

Expansion of the movement: The spark of the ongoing protest in Prayagraj from Prayagraj to Barabanki
has slowly started spreading to other cities as well. Candidates staged a strong protest in Barabanki on Thursday afternoon. Students gathered on the Lucknow-Ayodhya highway and staged a strong protest with banners, posters and sloganeering. The traffic system of the city was affected by this protest, and there was a jam on the roads for about an hour.

Tension between police and students amid the protest There
is a tense atmosphere between the students gathered in front of the commission in Prayagraj and the police force. The police has made heavy deployment to stop the protesters, but the students are not ready to move away. A fierce altercation was seen between the students and the police, in which barricades were also broken at many places.

Commission meeting and possible decision
According to sources, an important meeting is going on in the office of UP Public Service Commission under the chairmanship of Chairman Sanjay Srinet. In this, a big decision can be taken on the conduct of examinations and the normalization process. In this meeting, the stand of the commission is likely to be clear regarding the conduct of the upcoming examinations.
