INDC Network : Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh): Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Tuesday made an important announcement in which she completely rejected the rumours of her retirement from active politics. Terming it as "fake news" spread by opponents, she made it clear that she will remain in active politics till the last moment of her life and her commitment to BSP's Swabhimaan movement is unwavering.
Mayawati, who has been the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh four times, asserted that her life is dedicated to the principles of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar and BSP founder Kanshi Ram. She said that her struggle for the return of BSP to power will continue as the welfare of crores of poor, Dalit, tribal, OBC and Muslim communities of the party is of paramount importance to her. The statement came during a special meeting of the BSP's Central Executive Committee (CEC) and senior national office bearers and state party units, in which Mayawati was unanimously re-elected as the national president of the party. The decision was taken unanimously by senior party leaders and delegates from across the country, indicating the stability and continuity of the party under her leadership.
Mayawati stressed that ever since she named her nephew Akash Anand as her successor in the party, some media houses have started spreading rumours that she may soon retire from politics. She termed these claims as a conspiracy of the "casteist media" aimed at demoralising party workers and creating instability within the party. Mayawati clarified that her succession plan does not mean any indication towards her retirement and called upon party members and supporters to be vigilant against such false propaganda. The former chief minister said that the interest of BSP is paramount for her and she cannot compromise with it. She also recalled that earlier also similar rumours had been spread projecting her as a possible candidate for the post of President of India, which she and Kanshiram had rejected saying that it was not possible to play an active political role while holding this post.
Mayawati also said that she is constantly working to infuse new and young office bearers in the BSP. She believes that it is important to prepare a new generation to lead the party, but this does not mean that she is moving away from politics. She said that promoting young leaders is essential for the progress of the party, and she will continue to work in this direction. The BSP chief in her address stressed that despite the rumours and conspiracies being spread by opponents and casteist media, the resolve of the BSP has remained unwavering. She requested the party members to continue the ideology and struggle of the party and support the party's efforts to empower the Bahujan Samaj and other marginalized groups.
In the end, Mayawati reminded everyone that the struggle of the BSP is not just for attaining power, but it is a social movement aimed at empowering the marginalized societies who have been deprived of their rights for a long time. She urged the party members to stand with her in this struggle and put in all their efforts to strengthen the party. This statement of Mayawati made it clear that there is no change in the leadership of BSP at the moment, and she will continue to lead the party. The struggle and movement of BSP will continue under her leadership, and she will not let it weaken under any circumstances.
